Monster 2022 Girls Win Championship at Lax for the Cure

    from press release

The Monster 2022 team traveled to New Jersey the weekend of June 25th to play in what some call the largest and most prestigious girl’s lacrosse tournament in the country. All the best teams converge on the fields at New Egypt High School on the same weekend every year to play in Lax for the Cure. The only difference this year was that the Monster 2022 team won the championship. This is the first ever LFTC Championship for the Monster program and a feat that has never been done by an upstate NY team.
"This is the biggest championship the program has ever had. To go down there and play in the toughest division and then run the table in the playoffs is such a tough task. These are the best against the best for 7 games in a row", said Ronnie Davis, the Monster Club Director. The Championship spots are usually taken by the Long Island Yellow Jackets or M&D from Maryland. The M&D club actually won the majority of the age groups so stealing a championship is no easy feat. "The girls played hard and the coaches did their jobs. Everyone had a task and it took everyone to pull it off. I’m just so proud of all of them."
The Monster teams prepare for these types of tournaments by playing year around and seeking out the best tournaments and playing in the toughest divisions. By the looks of it, if you are in a tournament with the Yellow Jackets, M&D, and Skywalkers, you are in the right place for a high level club team. "In club lacrosse, if your going to travel you should travel to play the best competition you can get. Anything else is a waste of time and money. There are several local tournaments we could go to but playing in those doesn't do anyone in our program any good. I’m sure it works for some clubs."
The Monster 2022 team and the rest of the Monster teams will be heading to Maryland the weekend of July 14th and 15th to play in the Mid Atlantic Summer Club Championships. This is another very high-level tournament and once again all the Monster teams will be playing in the toughest divisions. "Its really not about the wins and losses in these big tournaments. We just hope to compete. Winning is just icing on the cake."
