    Nike's Upstate Risings Tournament Results

The Upstate Risings Tournament is the perfect example of the old saying that there is usually a silver lining in any dark cloud. Held at the Sunnycrest/Henninger Athletic Complex in Syracuse on Saturday, July 17th, this now annual tourney was born from the NYS Nike Shootout held here in 2009 as a replacement tournament for the cancelled Empire State Games.

This year's format was really two tournaments in one, with 2009-10 freshmen all-stars from NYS Sections 3-6 playing a round-robin schedule, followed in alternating hours with their counterpart sophomore all-stars. That's a pretty nice chunk of Upstate - everything west of a line from Carthage to Binghamton.

With plenty of sunshine, beautiful fields, supportive fans, the great smells of sausage with peppers and onions coming from the concession stand, and great lacrosse, a finer summer day could not have been wished for.

Photos from four of the games can be found here.
