Two Gaffer Elite Laxers Going To St. Bonaventure

    from press release

Cian Collins has selected St. Bonaventure to continue his Division One lacrosse career. He is one of the original Gaffer Elite players from the first team in the fall of 2012. The coaches have always felt he was destined to play at the highest level. On the field as a middie he has always possessed the ability to transfer the ball from the defensive end to the scoring zone. His skills translate well as a two way midfielder, who has the abilities to make an impact at both ends.
He has been a member of the Corning Hawk’s youth lacrosse program since early grade school and his father had experience at Corning East in football and lacrosse in the early 1980s. His Corning Hawk Coach Chris Hogue has seen Cian’s development as he has been a strong varsity player over his three springs. He has also been an outstanding running back for the Hawk football teams as well as a sprinter for the indoor track program. As a three sport athlete he has worked hard to maintain a 90% average in the classroom. Cian was selected as the winner of the very prestigious Joel Stevens Award as the Top Student-Athlete in the Corning-Elmira Area in 2017.
Cian has told Bonnie Coach Randy Mearns, he intends to academically focus on Marketing as his major. The Gaffer Elite staff is convinced of his abilities to make a big difference for this new Division One program. The transition to college lacrosse will be made easier by the presence of three 2018 Gaffer graduates: Austin Blumbergs-Penn Yan, Ryan Burns-Corning and Nick Conklin-Johnson City.
Austin Blumbergs recently signed a NLI to play for the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. As a three year midfielder of the Gaffer Elite lacrosse program, he has developed into a tremendous outside shooter and all-around player. The coaches have found him to an extremely dedicated player with countless hours put into creating a deadly cannon of a hard shot.
At his home school of Penn Yan playing for Coach Brian Hobart, Austin has played attack and midfield. His ability to fill up the net from either position makes him very valuable to the success of the Mustangs. By playing just lax he has been able to focus all of his efforts on improving his spring sport with: weight room, wall ball and shooting on goal. The super strong work ethic has helped his succeed in the Mustang classroom with an average of 96%.
Austin has told Bonnie Coach Randy Mearns, he intends to academically focus on a Business/Marketing major. The Gaffer Elite staff is sure his abilities will make a big difference for this new Division One program. The transition to college lacrosse will be made easier by the presence of two 2018 Gaffer graduates: Ryan Burns-Corning and Nick Conklin-Johnson City.
